Playoff Recap 9/12: Captains lose, on brink of elimination

Captains Fall Short Drop Game One 10-8

The Captains late rally fell short on Sunday afternoon as they lost to the Loons 10-8. Great Lakes took a 1-0 lead over Lake County in the best of the three series.

The Captains out hit the Loons 12-9, but Great Lakes was able to take advantage of six walks and three errors as they built leads of 6-2 and 10-5, but Lake County never quit with Chase Burnette going 3-for-4 with a double and two homeruns and driving in four runs for the Captains keeping the team close.

Lake County trailed by five heading into the bottom half of the ninth. Delvi Cid singled up the middle driving in two runs to make it 10-8. Tyler Holt drew a walk and the Captains had two on, and just one out. Casey Frawley who has come up big all season long was not able to rip one past the third baseman Christain Lara as the Loons turned a double play and escaped with a game one win.

Josh Wall (1-0) picked up the win giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out five. Luis Vazquez came in to face one hitter and picked up his second postseason save. Giovanni Soto (0-1) took the loss tossing 4.1 innings allowing four runs on three hits, walking five and striking out four.

The series shifts to Great Lakes for game two of the best of three series. The Captains will start RHP Brett Brach (0-0) against RHP Allen Webster (0-1).
