To make room for Pestano and Carlin on the 40-man roster, the Indians have transferred catcher Carlos Santana from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL and placed right-handed pitcher Hector Ambriz on the 60-day DL with inflammation in his right elbow.
Pestano, 25, will be making his first career appearance on the Major League roster after having spent most of the season at AAA Columbus. He is 1-2 with a 1.55ERA and 14 saves in 43 regular season games with the Clippers (46.1IP, 35H, 8ER, 14BB, 59K). Vinnie allowed one run in 5.0 innings/5 games during the playoffs (1SV, 2H, BB, 9K) and finished the Triple-A Championship game Tuesday in Columbus' 12-6 win (1.0IP, 0H, K). Over his final 10 regular season appearances, he only allowed 3 hits and no runs (10.0IP, 2BB, 10K) and was 1-1 with 10 saves and a 0.71ERA over his last 24 games (25.3IP, 13H, 2R/ER, 7BB, 31K). The 6-0, 205-pound right-hander has a cumulative 1.81ERA in 57 combined games between Columbus and Akron with 17 saves (59.2IP, 47H, 16R/12ER, 16BB, 77K). He will wear #52. The Indians selected Pestano in the 20th round of the 2006 draft out of Cal State Fullerton.
Carlin, a 5-10, 195-pound, switch-hitting catcher has spent the entire season to date at the Triple-A level between Columbus and the Indianapolis Indians. The 29-year old was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 10th and hit .231 (9-39) with 9RS, 2 2B, 2HR and 6RBI in 13 games for the Clippers. He went 7-for-20 (.350) in seven playoff games with 7RS, 4 2B, 2HR and 5RBI. Luke was a 10th round selection by Detroit in the 2002 June Draft and has appeared in 46 Major League games with San Diego (2008) and Arizona (2009). He hit .239 (49-205) with Indianapolis this year (8 2B, 2HR, 23RBI) in 63 games and will wear #26.
Sarbaugh recently led the Clippers to the International League and Triple-A Baseball Championship titles. It was the second consecutive year leading his club to a league title (AA Akron, 2009). The 2010 season marks his 7th season as a manager in the Indians Player Development System and 22nd in the Indians organization as a player, coach or manager.
The Indians Major League roster currently stands at 31 (15 pitchers, 3 catchers, 8 infielders & 5 outfielders) and the 40-man stands at 40.
In other news, the Indians today announced the club has signed a two-year Player Development Contract (PDC) extension with the 2010 International League champion Columbus Clippers. The agreement now runs through the 2014 season.
The two-year extension comes two days after the Columbus Clippers captured the Triple-A Championship after Tuesday night's 12-6 win over the Tacoma Rainiers. The Clippers compiled a regular season record of 79-65 (.549) in 2010, winning the International League wild card before defeating Scranton and Durham for the International League crown. Columbus has now won eight (8) Governor's Cups in their 34 year existence, the last coming in 1996 prior to this season. 2010 marked Columbus' second year as an Indians affiliate after the two clubs signed an original 4-year contract prior to the 2009 season.
The Indians Player Development System had three full-season affiliates qualify for post-season play in 2010 (AAA Columbus, A Kinston, A Lake County), with two of them winning their respective league titles (Columbus, Lake County). The Cleveland Indians organization was the only system in Major League Baseball to have two full-season clubs capture league crowns. The four full-season clubs each finished at least .500 and had a combined regular season record of 300-265 (.531).

With the 40-man Roster now full and with offseason rostering of several names we'd like to keep, do you think the Tribe will cut loose Jordan Brown?
I hope his subpar showing hasn't discouraged the front office on him because it seems to me that Jordan seems to be better a second time around through a new level he faces whether it's A to AA, AA to AAA, and now AAA to MLB.
On top of that, I don't see him sticking in general, even on the bench in the bigs, since he is a lefty and with Shelley Duncan, a righty with more power and production thus far at the same positions in town.
I expect Jordan to remain on the 40-man this offseason. The same can't be said for the likes of Hodges, Gimenez, Duncan, Marte, etc all of which I expect to be DFAed.
Brown is in an unenviable position where he hits left-handed where the three man regular outfield next season of Brantley, Sizemore, and Choo are all left-handed too. The one good thing going for him is he can maybe help at 1B if LaPorta continues to struggle. Bottom line, he has to hit, something he has not done yet, but an EXTREMELY small sample size.
