Clinton forced a fifth a deciding game in their best-of-five series with Lake County with a 3-2 come from behind win at Classic Park on Sunday night. The Captains will host the Lumberkings Monday night September 20th at 6:30PM for the fifth and deciding game for the Midwest League Championship.
The Captains took a 2-1 lead in the 7th inning after right fielder Greg Folgia delivered a two out base hit to center field scoring Chase Burnette who had reached earlier in the inning on a leadoff single.
The backend of Lake County’s bullpen, which has been strong all season long, could not close the deal when it mattered most. Clinton rallied for two runs in the eighth inning to take a 3-2 on Lake County. Blake Ochoa’s RBI single in the eighth inning drove in the game winning run.
The Lumberkings win overshadows an outstanding start from Captains’ left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuno. Nuno fired 6.2 innings allowing just one run on three base hits, walking only two and striking out a career high twelve batters. Jose Flores took the loss giving up two runs on just one hit, and walking one.
Lake County and Clinton will play the fifth and final game at Classic Park on Monday night at 6:30PM. The Captains will send left-hander Giovanni Soto (0-2, 6.00 ERA) to the mound while the Lumberkings will go with right-hander Yoervis Medina (1-0, 2.19 ERA).
