Around the Farm: May 10

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Ezequiel Carrera-CF, Columbus: 3-for-4, 2 R, HR, RBI: 

Carrera is really becoming one of my favorite minor league players in the system. The underrated centerfielder is now hitting .324 on the season, and tonight he added a bit of power with his first homer. He's currently on an 8-for-18 streak, with seven runs scored, a double, two walks, a K and four stolen bases over his last five games.

• Lonnie Chisenhall-3B, Columbus: 1-for-5, R, 2B, 3 RBI, K: Chiz only got on once, but made it count, with a three-run double in the third inning, which gave the Clips a 6-0 lead at the time.
• Travis Buck-1B, Columbus: 2-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB: Buck is hitting .340 since being set down, and is doing everything he can to stay relevant in a system full of players knocking on the door.
• Cord Phelps-2B, Columbus: 2-for-5, R, HR, RBI, 2 K: Phelps knocked out his fourth homer of the season, as he begins to recapture some of the fire from his torrid April start.
• Jason Kipnis-DH, Columbus: 1-for-5, K: I hate to say it, but Kipnis has come down to earth a bit from his impressive 2010 season.
• Carlton Smith-RP, Columbus: 2/3 IP, 4 H, 4 R/ER, BB, K: Smith has given up four runs this year...all of them tonight.  It appears as though the clock has struck midnight on Smith's magical run.  It will be curious to see what he does in his next appearance.
• Jordan Henry-CF, Akron: 1-for-2, R, 3 BB: You can't ask much more from your lead-off guy than to get on base four-out-of-five times.
• Jared Goedert-1B, Akron: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, K:  Goedert makes his return from the 60-day DL with a 20-game stint starting in Akron.
• Chun-Hsiu Chen-C, Akron: 2-for-4, R, BB, K: Chun is still trying to find the big wood this season, so games like this are promising.
• Matt McBride-DH, Akron: 3-for-5, R, HR, RBI: McBride seems to be specializing in multi-hit games.  This was his fifth in seven games, in which he's gone an impressive 12-for-28, with seven runs scored, four homers and seven RBI.
• Matt Packer-SP, Akron: 6 IP, 8 H, 7 R/5 ER, BB, 2 K, L (0-5): Packer struggled all night, continuing a season that is a start contrast to his breakout year in 2010.
• Kyle Blair-SP, Lake County: 4 IP, 7 H, 3 R/ER, BB, 4 K, L (2-1): Blair has been one of the best pitchers in the organization over his past three starts, and started off in a similar fashion tonight.  Blair gave up two hits heading into the fourth inning, before back-to-back-to-back singles, followed by a walk broke up his shut out.  Two more singles in the inning plated two more runs.  This is just a blip on the radar.
• LeVon Washington-CF, Lake County: 1-for-4, 2B, K: Washington has a four-game hit streak with four identical 1-for-4 showings.
• Giovanny Urshella-3B, Lake County: 1-for-4, R, HR, RBI, 2 K: Urshela with the Captains lone homer of the night, his third of the season.
• Alex Monsalve-C, Lake County: 3-for-4, R, 2B: Monsalve added to his five-game hit streak.  Who would of thought that he would be the best catcher at Lake County this year.
• Alex Lavisky-DH, Lake County: 0-for-4, K: Lavisky is below the Mendoza line once again, at .186 for the season.  It's only May, but there's bound to be some concern.
