Zach McAllister: SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 1 HR, W (6-0):
I wonder if Cleveland really knew what they were getting when they traded Austin Kearns to the New York Yankees last season. In 2008 and 2009, McAllister went a combined 21-14 in both single and double A for the New York Yankees. He had a combined 2.15 ERA with 211 K's and only 54 BB's. McAllister took a major step backward against triple A pitching in 2010, going 8-10 with a 5.09 ERA before being included in the deal that sent Kearns to the Yankees. McAllister is 6'6' and 240 pounds, and is extremely durable. He doesn't depend on power, but can hit the mid-90's. He is a sinker/slider pitcher, and relies on groundball outs. In other words, he's perfect for the Indians system. This year, McAllister is back on track. Including today's dominant win, McAllister has won six of his seven starts, and hasn't given up more than four earned runs in any game. He's particularly tough against righties (.227 against him). If he continues this run, it would be hard for the Indians not to recall him next should an injury issue arise.
- Zach Putnam-RP, Columbus: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 K, S (4): Putnam continues to dominate triple A pitching after a tough outing on May 6th. Putnam has major league stuff, and isn't far away from a trip to the Big Leagues.
- Jason Donald-SS, Columbus: 2-for-3, 3 R, HR, RBI: Donald was mired in a three-game hitless streak that saw him go 0-for-11. He broke out in a big way today, with a home run and three runs scored.
- Travis Buck-1B, Columbus: 1-for-2, R, 2 RBI, BB, SB: Buck continues to fill the stat lines day-in and day-out.
- Luis Valbuena-LF, Columbus: 0-for-4, 2 K: Valbuena was in the outfield tonight, trying to stay relevant to the Indians, but is scuffling a bit with the bat.
- T.J. McFarland-SP, Akron: 2 1/3 IP, 9 H, 8 R/ER, 3 BB: This is a major setback for McFarland in his quest to move up through the ranks. His ERA bumped up to 7.16 in one of his worst outings as a pro.
- Karexon Sanchez-2B, Akron: 2-for-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K: Sanchez was one of the best players in Kinston last year, but he's really struggled in Akron this year? How bad has it been? In his last ten games he's hit .300, and in his last five games, he's hit .368. This moved his overall average to .146.
- Matt McBride-1B/RF, Akron: 1-for-4, 2 R, 2B, K: McBride has hits in five of his last six game, four of which were two-hit games.
- Michael Rayl-SP, Lake County: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R/ER, 8 K, 1 HR, W (4-0): Rayl has 19 K's in his last two starts, both wins.
- Carlos Moncrief-CF, Lake County: 4-for-5, 2 R, 2B, K, SB (7): Moncrief might be the hottest hitter in the system. He's currently on a five-game hitting streak, and is batting .434 during the streak. He's hitting .404 in his last ten games.
- Tyler Cannon-SS, Lake County: 1-for-3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB, K: Cannon continues to produce. When you get on base as much as he is, you're going to score runs.
- Jesus Aguilar-1B, Lake County: 2-for-5, R, 2B, 3B: Aguilar proves that he's not just a home run hitter. He just can't maintain consistency.
- Alex Monsalve-DH, Lake County: 1-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K: Monsalve continues a modest hit streak with a two-run jack.
- Anthony Gallas-RF, Lake County: 3-for-5, R, K: Gallas is hitting a stout .355. Gallas was honored earlier in the day with the player of the week award, and did nothing to make the voters think they'd made a mistake. He's currently riding an 11-game hit streak, in which he's hitting .487. Boy, Kinston can sure use this kid.
