The Indians have assigned infielder Jared Goedert to Double-A Akron to begin a 20-day Major League rehab assignment. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list recovering from an oblique injury. Under rules of a Major League rehab assignment the Indians have 20 days to activate him from the 60-day disabled list which also makes him count on the 40-man roster again and they have to either option him to the minors, assign him to the big league club, or designate him for assignment. He will likely soon be assigned to Columbus to finish his rehab.
The Indians have called up right-handed reliever Frank Herrmann from Triple-A Columbus. He is expected to fill a short term need in the bullpen and could possibly be optioned right back out on Wednesday when right-hander Carlos Carrasco is activated from the disabled list to make his expected start. It is also possible another reliever is optioned out or even released (Germano?) which allows Herrmann to remain with the team.
