This Just In: Germano DFAed, Valbuena recalled

The Indians designated right-handed pitcher Justin Germano for assignment today and recalled infielder Luis Valbuena from Triple-A Columbus.  With Travis Hafner out of the lineup again tonight and second baseman Orlando Cabrera in South Carolina for his U.S. citizenship ceremony, the Indians were short an infielder and recalled Valbuena to fill that need.

The fact they called up Valbuena and did not bring up infielder Cord Phelps shows this is likely a short term move with Valbuena and that he will be sent back out in a few days if Hafner is not placed on the disabled list and the team adds a pitcher to replace Germano.  As to who replaces Germano in the long man role, it could be right-hander Frank Herrmann, but with right-hander Mitch Talbot about ready to come off the disabled list and right-handers Carlos Carrasco and Alex White pitching well and the future for the team, don't be surprised if Talbot is moved to the bullpen and assumes the long man's role.
