Around the Farm: May 8th

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Cord Phelps-SS, Columbus: 3-for-7, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K

Phelps hit his third home run of the year in the Clippers second game and is currently second in the IL in on-base percentage. Phelps is having a hot start to his season but the batting eye is nothing out of the ordinary. Phelps has had a on-base percentage of at least .366 every year in the Indians system. In 2009 he walked 93 times and when the walk-rate dipped in 2010, his hits went up. Now he's putting both together and he's having a fantastic all-around season.

Anthony Gallas-LF, Lake County: 2-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI

Is there a game out there where Gallas hasn't hit a double? Not lately. Gallas now leads the Midwest League in doubles. He is second on the team in runs scored with 20 and first in total bases. He is ninth in the Midwest in slugging and third in total hits.

• Ezequiel Carrera-CF, Columbus: 1-for-6, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 SB: Carrera stole a pair of bases to take over as sole leader of stolen bases in the International League.
• Cord Phelps-SS, Columbus: 3-for-7, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K: Phelps hit his second home run of the year in the Clippers second game and is currently second in the IL in on-base percentage.
• Jason Kipnis-2B, Columbus: 3-for-4, R, 2B, RBI: Kipnis has collected 13 hits in his last 10 games and his three-hit day on Sunday marked his fourth multi-hit game in that span.
• Wes Hodges-1B, Columbus: 3-for-4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, K: Scuffling on the bubble Wes Hodges hasn't played much lately, but he made his mark on Sunday by collecting three hits and knocking in four runs. He had entered the day with just five RBI.
• Jerad Head-LF, Columbus: 2-for-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 K: Head hit his fourth home run of the season and is now second in the International League in average.
• Luke Carlin-C, Columbus: 2-for-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB: The backstop for Columbus continues to quietly put together a solid season. Carlin hit his third homer of the season and has produced a RBI in five of his last six starts. He's accounted for 21 runs (scored or knocked in) in the past 10 games.
• David Huff-SP, Columbus: 6 IP, 11 H, 4 R, BB, 6 K: The first blemish to David Huff's win-loss record will also mark a season high in hits and strikeouts. Huff hasn't given up more than four runs in a start this season and struck out a season high six hitters. The good news, he's only walked two hitters in his past three starts compared to ten in his first three.
• Scott Barnes-SP, Columbus: 5 IP, W (1), 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K: Coming off a disaster of a performance against Charlotte in which he gave up four home runs, Scott Barnes gave up two more against Lehigh Valley. After not giving up a homer in his first starts between Akron and Columbus, he's now given up six on the season and 12 of his 17 earned runs given up have come in the last two games.
• Jordan Henry-CF, Akron: 1-for-4, 2 R, 3B, RBI, BB: As fast as Jordan Henry is, he hit his first triple on Sunday. Henry only hit four last year for Akron.
• Tim Fedroff-LF, Akron:3-for-4, R, RBI: Fedroff added three more hits, his fourth straight multi-hit game in a row and second three-hit game in four starts. He is sixth in the Eastern League in average.
• Juan Diaz-SS, Akron: 2-for-4, R, 2B: The double Juan Diaz hit accounted for his 10th extra base hit of the season.
• Chun Chen-C, Akron: 1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K: Back on track for Chun Chen as he knocked in runs to end a four game drought. Chen now has 17 on the season to lead the team.
• Austin Adams-SP, Akron: 6 IP, W (3), 6 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 3 K: That's a pair of good starts in May for Austin Adams who won his second straight game. Two runs were unearend and the bullpen held it together to give Adams the win.
• CC Lee-RP, Akron: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K: The troubles seem to be behind Lee after yet another dominant appearance. Lee has struck out anything that has stepped up to the plate the past few weeks.
• Cory Burns-RP, Akron: 1 IP, S (9), 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K: After a meltdown a few days ago, Burns was back at it to notch his ninth save of the season. It didn't come without a run given though.
• Tyler Holt-CF, Kinston: 3-for-3, R, 2 BB: 
• Chase Burnette-1B, Kinston: 0-for-4, 4 K, BB: Four strikeouts for Burnette, ouch.
• Giovanni Soto-SP, Kinston: 6 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 5 K: His rained out third of an inning aside, Soto has put back-to-back six inning starts together with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
• Adam Miller-RP, Kinston: 1 IP, 0 R, BB, K: Boxscore watching continues for Adam Miller who made another appearance of scoreless relief. 
• Calros Moncrief-RF, Lake County: 2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, K, SB: With LeVon Washington in the fold, Moncrief has been replaced as the leadoff man, but he's still making things happen in the two spot. Moncrief knocked in a pair of runs and stole his sixth base of the season.
• Anthony Gallas-LF, Lake County: 2-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI:  Is there a game out there where Gallas hasn't hit a double? Not lately. Gallas now leads the Midwest League in doubles
• Argenis Martinez-2B, Lake County: 1-for-3, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB: Quietly putting together a solid season, Martinez has a 371 on-base percentage and a six game hitting streak.
• Michael Goodnight-SP, Lake County: 1.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R (4 ER), BB, K: Not a particularly impressive showing from Goodnight after striking out 10 against Lansing last time. He wasn't helped by his defense as they committed five errors on the game. Goodnight failed to get out of the second inning.
• Jordan Cooper-RP, Lake County: 3.1 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K: Cooper had a rough first outing since arriving from extended but has put together two straight shutout appearances.
