Game Recap 4/11: Weglarz Has Grand Day

Aeros Score 11 Again in 11-8 Win

The Aeros held off a feverish B-Mets rally in the ninth to take an 11-8 decision Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Designated hitter Nick Weglarz led a 17-hit barrage with a three-hit day featuring a grand slam homer and four RBI.

The two teams were held scoreless by starters Mike Antonini and Paolo Espino until the fourth inning. Antonini allowed the first four men to reach in the frame, including a Josh Rodriguez RBI single. After getting Wyatt Toregas to foul out, Tim Fedroff singled home another run to make it 2-0. With the bases still loaded, Lonnie Chisenhall came next and reached on fielder’s choice to first on which Evans threw home to force the runner. Binghamton got a run back in the bottom of the inning when leftfielder Lucas Duda lifted off with his second home run of the season, a solo shot to right. However, the Aeros struck for three more in the sixth, expanding their lead to eight at 9-1. Akron almost let the lead slip away after a late game rally by the B-Mets had them down just 9-7 going into the 9th inning, closer Vinnie Pestano was able to shut the door in the 9th inning.

Espino earned the win for the Aeros with 5.1 innings of three-run work, though reliever Bryan Price had a forgettable afternoon going 1.1 inning and allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. In addition to Weglarz, third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall went 3-for-5 and centerfielder Tim Fedroff went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI to pace the offense

Clippers Split Series With Indians

Designated hitter Carlos Santana blasted his International League leading fourth home run of the season in the first inning and the Columbus Clippers' offense sealed the victory with a sixth run seventh as they gained the series split with a 9-4 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday afternoon at Huntington Park.

The six-run seventh inning rally was started and ended by former Indianapolis Indians' infielder Brian Bixler, who led off the frame with a double to center and later scored the innings first tally on a single by CF Jose Constanza. Then following a sacrifice fly by SS Anderson Hernandez, a two-run single by RF Shelley Duncan and a run scoring single by Buscher, Bixler capped the rally by bringing home Duncan with his second double of the inning.

The Clippers had three batters collect multiple hits, including Buscher (3-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI), Bixler (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Constanza (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI). Columbus starter Yohan Pino (5.0 IP 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) struck out five in five innings of work to improve to 1-0 on the season.

Why isn't Alexander Perez starting for Kinston? Does he have an injury of some sort?

Just answered it in the IPI Inbox...some arm tightness, looks like he could be back on Sunday.
