Mud Hens Walk Past Clippers
Toledo walked away from Huntington Park with a 10-1 victory Monday night, as nine free passes aided the Mud Hens, who took three of five from the Clippers in a two-city, weekend wrap-around series.
Mike Rabelo's three-run shot to near-dead center gave the Mud Hens the lead in the fourth inning. The Clippers got one back in the bottom half of the inning, thanks to a dropped fly ball by Toledo's Clete Thomas in centerfield.
A Columbus error paved the way for two more Toledo runs in the fifth inning, and ended the night of Clippers starter Jeanmar Gomez (1-2). The visitors added another run in the eighth and four more in the ninth, as Rabelo capped a five-RBI night with a two-run double and then scored on Danny Worth's two-run homer.
Starter Enrique Gonzales (1-2) worked six innings for the Mud Hens, scattering six hits without allowing an earned run. In contrast to the Columbus pitchers, Toledo arms didn't walk a batter all night.
At 11-8, the Clippers and Mud Hens are now tied atop the International League's West Division.
The Clippers will look to rebound when they open a four-game series with Charlotte Tuesday night. Yohan Pino's first pitch is slated for 6:35.
