Opening Day Minor League Rosters

Here are the season opening rosters for Columbus, Akron, Kinston and Lake County as well as those who will be in extended spring training. Please note, these rosters are subject to change at anytime before the start of the season on Thursday April 8th as some last minute changes could be made or injuries could occur. Players under each heading are listed in no particular order.

Also, the roster limit for each affiliate is as follows: Columbus (24), Akron (24), Kinston (25) and Lake County (25). You will notice some affiliates have more players than allowed, and this is because some of these players will open the season on the disabled list while the Indians are still making decisions on some other players. This is especially true at Columbus where the infielders need to be whittled down by a player or two.

Last, some rotations have six starters because two of the pitchers in the rotation are expected to piggyback each other every outing with one starting and going five innings and then the other coming in relief and going four innings, and then that person starting the next time and the other coming in relief, etc.

Kinston...man that rotation could be good. Actually Kinston has more than a few players I'm gonna keep an eye on. Abreu, Bellows and Kipnis as well as the whole rotation.

Also, Austin Adams and Joe Gardner starting, I like this.

Didn't Toregas get outrighted off the 40 man?

are the starting rotations in order

First of all, I've been reading the blog for a while now and absolutely love it. Keep up the great work Tony. One question, where is Neil Wagner?

Oops on Wagner, he is with Akron....I accidentally omitted him. Corrected.

Toregas is going to be traded, or at least they are going to try and trade him, but he is likely DFAed today and then traded. No official move has occurred as of this writing.

And as noted, the players including rotations are not listed in any order.

wow is kinston's rotation stacked

I thought De La Cruz was going to be in Akron?

Any reason Vidal Nuno is with Extended Spring Training? The guy was absolutely lights out and isn't even good enough to grab a bullpen spot in Lake County? Is he hurt?

A bit surprised to see Graham and Espino still starting, but should I assume that those 2, as well as Putnam are likely ticketed for the bullpen in the near future?

What does it mean when a pitcher is placed in extended spring training?

Is Jordan Brown back at First Base?

It may be very difficult to whittle down that Akron bullpen from 10 to 7. Any ideas as to who gets sent down to EST?

So many to watch this year to see which way they go, higher on the radar or going the other way. Was Drennan's white hot finish last year a mirage, can Mills pick it up and so on.

I'm intrigued by Bellows as well, pretty athletic and he showed some pop in his first year.

All in all our farm system is in a much better place than a couple of years ago, or so it seems.

Yep, Kinston is loaded....the other teams are not shabby either, but Kinston is gonna be fun to follow.

De Las was 50/50 for Akron. Gotta remember he was slated at Kinston to start last year and only made 2 starts before missing the rest of the season. Kinston is considered the most important level, so makes some sense to have him start there and then probably move up quickly by May/June to Akron.

Nuno had a very good statistical performance last year, but unfortunately it doesn't increase his prospect standing much. There are some other arms the Indians need see at Lake County first, but I think Nuno will be in Lake County (or Kinston) at some point. I mean, who do you take out of that Lake County bullpen? The problem at the moment is there are so many starters, so it is pushing some of the relievers back a level.

Extended spring training runs from April to June. It's in Goodyear, the same place as regular spring training, and is where all the extra guys continue to develop and work on things and play games to get ready for short season leagues which start up in June. I have an article on it I will re-post soon.

Jordan Brown, from what I understand, will rotate between the outfield and first base. No idea how much time at the moment he will spend at each position, but believe most of the time is expected to be in left field. Shelly Duncan and Wes Hodges will also see a lot of time at first base.

As for the ten relievers in Akron, note again this that is not a final roster for any team. Lake County is the only one under the roster threshold while all the others still need to remove as many as 5-6 players still. But yeah, it will be interesting to see who they ultimately remove from the Akron pen.

I think the pitching is good at Kinston, but I don't think the rest is that great except for a few guys (Abreu, Sanchez). It's basically the dame team I watched everyday at Lake County last year and they didn't win anything.

Tim, I think you're pretty wrong on this one.

Lake County didn't see Bellows, Kipnis, or Henry make a stop. They all skipped right over Lake County to play every day at Kinston this year, and they'll be a huge help to that offense. It's a much better lineup than what Lake County put on the field.

Couple that with the fact that Hagadone won't have a 3-inning limit, and there's potential for some outstanding play in Kinston.

Thanks. I was just wondering about Wagner because he had a solid year last year and I've followed his MLB blog so I was curious.

Yeah, the Kinston lineup has some interesting bats with Webb, Abreu, Henry, Bellows and of couse Kipnis. Three of those guys skipped Lake COunty and one only played a half of a very good season there.
