Nick Hagadone, Bryce Stowell, Matt Langwell and Steve Smith combined for a four-hit shutout. This is an extremely talented pitching staff, top-to-bottom. Hagadone is going to be special, and today will likely be the beginning of a quick journey to Cleveland. He went 4 2/3 of shutout ball, with four K's and two walks. Defense did come into play in keeping that shutout, but I'll get into that in a minute. Bryce Stowell and Matt Langwell are both sleeper prospects. Stowell still may end up starting, should any of the Big 5 move up, and showed his stuff Friday night going 2 2/3 shutout innings with five K's to get the win. Langwell and Steve Smith both went an inning without giving up a run. Overall, K-Tribe pitchers struck out 12, walked 4 and gave up 4 hits. This should be a common theme in the early part of the season.
Abner Abreu is more than just an offensive player. Dash SS Eduardo Escobar found that out the hard way Friday night. Escobar tried to score from second, and Abreu nailed him with an assist from right field. This kid is no joke.
Center fielder Jordan Henry already has five walks. His OBP is nearly .800. For those counting at home, he's on pace for around 350 walks this season. Don't you just love early season projections! On a serious note though, Henry is a cerebral player with above-average speed. If he continues to find ways to get on base and harass opposing pitching, he could have a breakout season.
Alex White is on the hill tonight in his organizational debut with the K-Tribe. He's a #1 pick and a hometown boy. Well, at least he won't feel any pressure.
