Greenwell's Five RBI Lifts Lake County

Bo Greenwell continued to swing a hot bat; his RBI single in the sixth inning scored Argenis Martinez for his fifth run driven in, breaking a 4-4 tie and lifting Lake County to 6-4 win over Lansing. The Captains improved to 8-0 on the year, their best start in team history.

Casey Frawley got the game started with a leadoff triple, and scored on Greenwell's RBI groundout putting Lake County up 1-0. Lansing tied the game scoring a run in the bottom half of the first, and took the lead in the second inning on a Jon Talley single scoring Ryan Goins.

In the third, Greenwell crushed a ball high off the 23 foot wall in rightfield that bounced off and rolled into center Greenwell raced around the bases for an inside the park homerun, scoring Martinez and Frawley for a 4-2 Lake County lead.

Francisco Jimenez (3-0) picked up the win coming out of the bullpen tossing 1.1 innings allowing just one hit and striking out one. Chris Jones worked the final three innings allowing two hits and striking out four, to earn his first save of the season. Lugnuts pitcher Nestor Molina -1) suffered his first loss allowing two runs in his only inning of work.

Lake County and Lansing will wrap up the series Friday night at 7:05PM. On the mound for the Captains RHP Austin Adams (0-0) matched against RHP Chad Jenkins (0-0) for the Lugnuts. The game can be heard on AM1330 WELW, ESPN 970 WFUN and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.

Toledo Beats Columbus In Series Finale

A four-game winning streak and the first home stand of 2010 at Huntington Park both came to a close Thursday afternoon, as Toledo split their brief two-game series with the Clippers, winning 6-3.

Armando Galarraga (1-1) went six and one-third innings for the visitors, allowing all three runs on five hits, while striking out six. The Clippers had base runners in the final few innings, but were unable to muster anything else against the Toledo bullpen.

Brennan Boesch capped a four-run fifth inning for Toledo with a two-run home run against Clippers starter Jeanmar Gomez (0-1), giving the Mud Hens a 5-0 lead and providing plenty of run support for Galarraga.

The Clippers got on the scoreboard in the sixth, when a Shelley Duncan single plated Jose Constanza. They narrowed the gap to 5-3 when Chris Gimenez hit a two-run blast in the seventh, but couldn't get any closer. Toledo added an insurance run in the ninth.

After a 5-3 home stand, the Clippers now head out on a nine-game, nine-day road trip, starting with a 7:05 start Friday night in Louisville against top prospect Aroldis Chapman and the Bats. Yohan Pino throws for the Clippers.

Columbus returns home on Sunday, April 25th to open another two-game series with Toledo.

Aeros Offense Silent In Opener

The Akron Aeros started their first home game of the 2010 season with a bang getting a solo home run from outfielder Nick Weglarz, his third of the season. Unfortunately, that was the last time the Aeros would cross the plate on Thursday night as the Baysox took control of the game when they tied it in the 3rd inning and never looked back, winning 9-1.

Bowie blew the game open by erupting for four runs in the 6th inning off starter Connor Graham who pitched 5.1 innings while giving up 5 ER, 4 BB and 3 K bringing his early season ERA to 10.61. Neil Wagner struggled to find his command early Thursday night lasting only 0.1 innings while giving up four runs that were all earned.

The Aeros received a warm welcome as they unveiled the 2009 championship pennant and as the players took the field in front of 5,006 fans at Canal Park on Thursday Night. The Aeros continue their homestand Friday night against the Baysox with Bowie's Ryohei Tanaka (1-0, 0.00 ERA) taking the mound against RHP Paolo Espino (1-0, 5.06 ERA).
