Lonnie Chisenhall, Cord Phelps and Eric Berger are Carolina League All-Stars and will head to the Golden State to take on the California League All-Stars on June 23rd.
Kinston infielder Lonnie Chisenhall will be the starting third baseman for the Carolina League All-Stars. Chisenhall is currently leading the Carolina League in RBI (43) and hits (62). The Eastern North Carolina native is also second in the league in home runs (10), fourth in slugging (.519), fourth in extra base hits (24) and seventh in batting average (.301). Chisenhall has been selected as the Carolina League Player of the Week two times this season.
California native and K-Tribe second baseman Cord Phelps will return to his home state as a utility infielder selection for the Carolina League All Stars. The Stanford University product is leading all Carolina League second baseman with a .996 fielding percentage, having committed just one error in 48 games this season. Phelps leads the Carolina League with 40 walks, the fifth most in all of Minor League Baseball. He is also second in the CL in on base percentage (.422) and third in doubles (16). Phelps is hitting .283 on the season.
Born in Goldsboro, but growing up in California; K-Tribe starting pitcher Eric Berger will return home for the All-Star game. Berger has been among the Carolina League leaders in earned run average all season and is currently fourth with a 2.48 ERA. The University of Arizona product is 3-4 in eleven starts this season. Berger has struck out 49 batters in 54 plus innings this season, giving up only 15 earned runs all year.
The Carolina vs. California League All-Star Game will take place on June 23rd in Lake Elsinore, CA at The Diamond, Home of the Advance A Lake Elsinore Storm. The Storm is an affiliate of the Padres located halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego.
