2010 Indians 10th Round Pick: OF Tyler Holt

In the 10th round of the 2010 Draft, the Indians select OF Tyler Holt out of Florida State University.

Jeff Ellis: Tyler Holt is yet another name player selected by the Indians this year. Thus far 9 out of 10 selections have been considered top 200 prospects in this draft by many. Holt is a very fast outfielder who played for Team USA last year. The past few years Holt might have been the best lead off hitter in all of college baseball. This year Holt tried to show more power and it hurt some of his other stats, but the truth of the matter is Holt can do many things well but he won't ever be a power hitter. Instead he is a possible leadoff man who is not just fast, but also a gritty, grinder type that Eric Wedge would have loved. Holt might not be a top shelf talent, but he should be a major leaguer some day because he is a smart player who plays all out. He has a great feel for the game, and while he might never be more than a 4th OF on a good team, he could be a Brett Gardner type of player down the road using his speed, intelligence, and heart to make him a valuable member of any roster. In the 10th round the Tribe just keeps making a believer out of me about their approach to drafting this year.

Jim Pete: Holt fits in the mold of Trevor Crowe. He's not a big kid at 5'11" and 190 pounds, but what he lacks in size and power he brings in heart. At Florida State, the coaching staff raved about him, calling him the "heart of the team." He's got plus speed, and he's tenacious. He makes good contact, and walks more than he strikes out. His OBP this year was near .500. Holt doesn't have a high ceiling, but will scrape to make it to the bigs.
