Around the Farm: June 11

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Jason Kipnis - 2B, Columbus: 3-for-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB.
Kipnis is really having a good season in Triple-A Columbus.  He got off to a slow start this year as he only hit .253 in 21 April games, but he still managed an .820 OPS.  His batting average shot up in May to .312 and he had an .858 OPS, and so far in June he has an excellent slash line of .314/.405/.543 in 10 games so far in June. One key to his success this year is he is limiting strikeouts as he has 36 in 219 at bats (6.0 AB/K), compared to the 107 he had in 518 at bats last year (4.8 AB/K). Overall in Columbus he is hitting .292/.369/.489 with 7 HR and 37 RBI and is ready offensively to come to Cleveland at any time.  It still comes down to when the Indians are comfortable with his defense.

Adam Miller - RP, Akron: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.
A very good outing for Miller in his fifth time out for Akron. Still no setbacks and he is still working his way through his slider issues. His ERA is a little deceiving as he's been great in 10 of his 13 combined appearances at Kinston and Akron. He has had things blow up on him in three other games which has inflated the ERA, but his other numbers are good: .242 BAA, 9.0 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9, though the walk rate needs to come down some.

• Ezequiel Carrera - CF, Columbus: 1-for-4, R, BB, K, 2 SB. The biggest improvement in his game this year is his base-stealing ability. Career high is 28 and already has 21 this season.
• Lonnie Chisenhall - 3B, Columbus: 0-for-5. Now 0-for-13 in last 3 games and 2-for-27 in last 7 games, he looks like he is nowhere close to going to Cleveland.
• Luis Valbuena - SS, Columbus: 0-for-3, R. His 19-game hitting streak comes to an end. Having a nice season in Columbus hitting .314/.370/.474 in 53 games.
• Corey Kluber - SP, Columbus: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R/ER, 5 BB, 5 K. Kluber's poor season continues. Just three quality starts in 12 tries.
• Nick Hagadone - RP, Columbus: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 0 K. ERA at Columbus is 7.84, but he has been unlucky at rest of stats are okay to very good: .238 BAA, 4.4 BB/9, 9.6 K/9.
• Beau Mills - 1B, Akron: 2-for-4, RBI. Encouraging start for Mills since coming back from foot injury and hitting .297/.343/.473 in 25 games.
• Nick Weglarz - DH, Akron: 0-for-4, 2 K. Slow start since being activated going just 3-for-18 in 5 games with 8 strikeouts.
• Jordan Henry - CF, Akron: 0-for-4, K. Really in a funk offensively in June hitting .182 with no extra base hits in 10 games, but amazingly still has .426 on-base percentage for the month.
• Tim Fedroff - LF, Akron: 3-for-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, SB. Still raking with the bat and piling up hits, and will probably be in Columbus soon.
• Steven Wright - RP, Akron: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR. Nice job of relief after reliving starter McFarland because of rain delay. His first outing since callup from Lake County.
• Tyler Holt - DH, Kinston: 3-for-4, R, RBI, K. Living up to scouting report as an on-base machine and base-stealing threat.
• Casey Frawley - 2B, Kinston: 1-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI. Only hitting .214, but been very productive with 8 HR and 36 RBI in 57 games.
• Drew Pomeranz - SP, Kinston: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 7 K. Arguably his worst start as a pro as he gave up a season high in hits and runs.
• Lake County offense: 2-for-30, R, 3 BB, 11 K. Not a good night at the plate for the Captains who were no-hit for 6.2 innings.
• Cole Cook - SP, Lake County: 5.0 IP, 11 H, 6 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR. Like with Pomeranz, arguably Cook's worst outing as a pro. Batters now hitting .314 against him this year.
• Luis Encarnacion - RP, Lake County: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K. Excellent outing. After 11 BBs in first 7.0 IP, just 3 BB in last 7.0 IP and looks like he is settling in.
