2011 Draft Signings: Johnson signs

Jeff Johnson
The Indians have signed 10th round pick right-handed pitcher Jeff Johnson. He will likely be assigned to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley in the coming days. The Indians have also signed undrafted free agent right-handed pitcher Matt Curtis out of Central Missouri. He went 11-0 with a 3.19 ERA in 79 innings this year and has been assigned to Goodyear where he will likely play with the AZL team.

If Indians 7th round pick catcher Eric Haase signs with them it will not be until later in the summer. He is playing with the 18-and-under Ann Arbor based A. Green sandlot team this summer and will play there so the Indians can get more looks at him all while negotiations continue between him and the Indians. The Indians have yet to offer him a contract but will as the signing deadline gets closer. He is on the fence with signing and not opposed to going pro right out of college, but of course how close the Indians come to his asking price will be the final determination on whether he signs or not. He has had lunch with his area scout a few times and was told “to be patient...they wouldn't waste a seventh round pick for nothing." He was also just named Mr. Baseball in Michigan this week.

It looks like 25th round pick shortstop Kevin Kramer is all but likely to go to UCLA because of his strong desire to play there and also get a college diploma. There is still a possibility he signs, but it looks like the floor in that negotiation process will be the Indians meeting his bonus demand and nothing short of it for him to sign.

report from the Post Star this week says that 33rd round pick right-hander Jack Wagoner will sign with the Indians later this summer.
