2011 Indians 42nd Round Pick: SS KC Serna

Photo: Ducks Athletics
In the 41st round of the 2011 Draft the Indians select shortstop Casey "KC" Serna out of the University of Oregon.

Bats: Right, Throws: Right, Height: 6'0", Weight: 185, Date of Birth: 10/15/1989

Note: Serna really struggled this year with a .232 avg, 34 R, 2 HR and 22 RBI. Last season, hit .348 with five homers and 37 RBI & 14 SB.

Jeff Ellis: Serna is a shortstop from Oregon. He is one of six players to have a scouting report or video on them provided by MLB.com. He fits what the Indians are looking for this draft as both an up the middle player and as a great athlete. He was his team’s quarterback in high school, which ended up ranked 7th in the state of California as a senior. He was a monster in high school and really hit a ton. He was part of Oregon’s first baseball recruiting class in 27 years. He had a real problem with the new bats and hit .232 this year, and much like earlier pick John Barr saw his stock take a tumble because of in ability to use the new bats. Another interesting athlete for the Tribe, it’s probably in Serna’s best interest to go back to school and try and reestablish his value after a rough junior year.
