Around the Farm: June 9

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Jason Kipnis - 2B, Columbus: 3-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB. There's something about Kipnis leading off that really ignites his bat. He was on fire and hit an absolute bomb to right field that literally left the yard. It was clear the opposing pitchers wanted to avoid throwing him fastballs. In the end, it didn't even matter.

Scott Barnes - SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 8 K. Another player who has been tearing it apart is Barnes. In his last four starts, he's averaged 7.1 innings a game (22.2 IP total), on average allowing 4.5 hits (18 hits), 1 run (5 runs), and 2.5 walks (10 walks) per game. He's also struck out roughly 8 batters per game (33 strike outs). Pretty impressive numbers.
  • Luis Valbuena - SS, Columbus: 2-4, R, 2B. It's also becoming tougher and tougher to ignore "Baby Luis" who's hitting .441 in his past ten games. Digging down further, in those ten games, he has a .500 OBP/.618 SLG/1.118 OPS.
  • Jared Goedert - 1B, Columbus: 2-3, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB. Goedert has needed a big game to get him back into the swing of things. Hopefully this is the game he needed to get going.
  • Jordan Henry - CF, Akron: 3-5, R, RBI, K. Coming into the game, Henry had one hit in his past five games and looked to break out of the mini-slump he was going through. Mission accomplished.
  • Beau Mills - 1B, Akron: 1-4, R, 2B, K. Mills extended his hit streak to seven games.
  • Joe Gardner - SP, Akron: 2.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER/8 R, 2 BB. In his past two starts, he's allowed 15 hits and 15 runs (8 earned). Not the type of outings you'd like to see from one of your "top" prospects.
  • Eric Berger - RP, Akron: 0.2 IP, 5 H, 6 ER/R, 4 BB, K, HR. An equally unimpressive and ugly outing from Berger as it was Gardner.
  • Jesus Aguilar - 1B, Lake County: 2-4, R, 2 K. Aguilar continues to be a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
