Around the Farm: June 21

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Scott Barnes: SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K, W (6-1): 

Barnes continues his rise to the top of the prospect list as the big lefty won his third consecutive start.  Barnes has gone seven shutout innings in two of his last three starts.  The Tribe doesn't have many left-handed starter prospects, but with Barnes and David Huff both pitching well at the Triple A level, things may be looking up.  It should be interesting seeing where the Columbus starters fall when it comes time to promote one or more of them.  Barnes throwing from the left side of the plate certainly makes him an interesting option, and one would wonder where he stands in comparison to fellow lefty Huff, Jeanmar Gomez and Zach McAllister.  All four have made their case, and Barnes coming to fruition this year has given the Indians that much more depth.

• Jason Kipnis: 2B, Columbus: 0-1, 1 R, 3 BB, 1 K: Kipnis goes without a hit, but walked three times, and scored the games first run, which proved to be the game-winner.
• Shelley Duncan: DH, Columbus: 2-4, 1 RBI: Duncan breaks on 0-7 slide with a two hit performance.
• Jensen Lewis: RP, Columbus: 1 IP, 2 K: I don't know if Lewis will ever be relevant again with the Tribe, but performances like this will help.
• Justin Germano: RP, Columbus: 2/3 IP, S (2): Germano gets a save in a perfect outing.
• Cody Elliott: RF, Mahoning Valley: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI: Elliott was the Indians' 21st draft pick in this year's draft.  He now haw two multi-hit games in his four starts.
• Tony Wolters: SS, Mahoning Valley: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI: Wolters, the 2010 third rounder, is currently on a three-game hit streak.
• Bryson Myles: CF, Mahoning Valley: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K: Myles hits his first home run as a member of the Indians' organization.
• Jake Lowery: C, Mahoning Valley: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI: Lowery can hit.  The fourth rounder is tearing the ball of the cover for Mahoning Valley.  His line reads .400/.471/.533.  A great start for the 2011 fourth-round draft pick.
• Alex Lavisky: DH, Mahoning Valley: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI: You have to wonder if Lavisky is feeling a little heat with Lowery playing so well.  Whatever the reason, Lavisky is playing much better than he was in Lake County.
• K.C. Serna: 2B, Mahoning Valley: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB: Serna was the 42nd round pick by the Tribe, and had his first hit, and multi-hit game.
