Kinston sweeps
The Indians held on Saturday night for a 2-1 victory over the Salem Red Sox. Kinston swept the three game series and has won five straight.
Kinston managed to strike first in the fourth inning off of Salem starter Chris Hernandez with back to back doubles to start the inning. After Casey Frawley’s rbi double, Adam Abraham sacrificed himself to score Kinston’s short stop.
That proved to be all the scoring Kinston needed but Salem threatened offensively in its half of the fourth. With two outs and one on, Frawley could not handle a ground ball picking up an error that put runners at the corners. Starter Drew Pomeranz followed with back-to-Back walks to allow the Red Sox a run.
Pomeranz only worked four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits. Kinston’s ace walked four and struck out four while lowering his league leading era to 1.81. The Kinston bullpen was again stellar with five scoreless innings. Francisco Jimenez picked up the win, striking out five over three innings of one hit ball. Jose Flores worked a perfect eighth and left the ninth to all-star closer Preston Guilmet. Guilmet set down the side in order for his league leading 18th save of the season.
With a series sweep in hand, the K-Tribe returns to historic Grainger stadium for three games against Potomac starting Sunday. Kinston sends the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week to the mound in T.J. House. Sunday’s first pitch is set for 4:30.
