Jeff Ellis: Adam Griffin is a prep righty from North Carolina. He is committed to UNC, which is a hard team to sign players away from. Griffin had a great game against highly thought of prospect Dillon Maples this year where both were hitting in the mid 90’s. The reason Maples went higher is he sustained that power all year, while Griffin's velocity went down as the spring went on. He has a ¾ release point and his fastball shows nice movement. He also has a change and a curve, both of which show good potential. He is a very good athlete, and was a good hitter as well in high school. If he could have kept his velocity up Griffin would have gone in the top five rounds, but the drop in velocity and the UNC commitment make this a pick that will more than likely get away from the Tribe.
