Around the Farm: June 18

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Paolo Espino-RP, Akron: W (4-0), 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

You want to talk about an unsung hero? How about Paolo Espino? Year after year this guy finds a way to contribute in what ever capacity that is asked of him. He just picked up his second straight win and gave the Aeros five scoreless innings of relief, enabling the Aeros to stick around in this one long enough to have the big inning. Whether he is starting (2-0, 2.45 ERA) or relieving (2-0, 2.70 ERA), Espino is just solid.

Tyler Cannon-2B, Kinston: 4-for-4, 3 R, 2 2B, RBI, BB

Cannon was a monster in Lake County, hitting .366 with a .456 on-base percentage. He's come back down to earth a little in Kinston, but is still ultra-productive for the K-Tribe. Cannon went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and was on base every time last night. Despite the significantly lower average than what he did with the Captains in 30 games, Cannon sports a respectable .336 OBP. Combined on the season he's hitting .295 with 5 HR, 27 RBI, and a .396 OBP.

• Jason Kipnis-2B, Columbus: 1-for-4, 2 K: One hit for Columbus, just one and it belonged to Jason Kipnis. 
• Jeanmar Gomez-SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 7 K: Now we know what it takes to beat Jeanmar Gomez, who took just his second loss of the season. Gomez turned in a valiant effort, certainly not one that deserved to lose. It was Gomez's sixth straight start going at least six innings, but it broke his streak of giving up no more than one run. It's been a full month since Gomez gave up as many earned runs as he did against the Yankees on Saturday.
• Nick Hagadone-RP, Columbus: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K: Finally a clean effort from Hagadone, who's had to work lately to get them. In his last six appearances he's given up at least a run in four of them. 
• Tim Fedroff-LF, Akron: 3-for-4, 2 R, 3B, RBI, K: The streak master is back. Tim Fedroff is off to another streak, this time hitting in seven straight games. It's also his third straight game with an extra-base hit. His triple gave him 18 extra-base hits on the season.
• Beau Mills-1B, Akron: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, K: Big Bad Beau is hitting .317 in his last ten games and has seven RBI. Mills has been the Beau Mills of Kinston-days since making his 2011 debut in May.
• Juan Diaz-SS, Akron: 2-for-3, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB: A big three-run blast by Juan Diaz helped power the six-run seventh inning for the Aeros. Diaz hadn't recorded an extra base hit since June 10th. 
• Chun Chen-C, Akron: 2-for-4, 3B, RBI, K: Chun Chen hit his first triple of the season. He ended a three-game hitless streak.
• T.J. McFarland-SP, Akron: 2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, BB, 2 K: Two straight starts for T.J. McFarland now that he's exited way too early. Usually reliable, McFarland left his last start after just one inning and in this one gave up four runs in the second frame for an early exit.
• Adam Miller-RP, Akron: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K: Adam Miller is just inching toward Columbus with another scoreless frame. That's five straight now.
• Tyler Holt-CF, Kinston: 2-for-4, 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI, BB, SB: The last time Tyler Holt only had one hit in a game was June 10th. He either goes 0-for, or has a multi-hit game. Holt stole his 17th base on the year and doubled his RBI total in the past ten games.
• Casey Frawley-SS, Kinston: 2-for-6, R, RBI, K, SB: 44 of Casey Frawley's 62 strikeouts have come against right-handed hitters. 
• Anthony Gallas-LF, Kinston: 1-for-6, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K: Since being called up to Kinston, Gallas is hitting just .227 in six games. However after last night he's knocked in six runs and doubled three times. Did you expect the guy with 24 doubles to not do what he does best?
• Doug Pickens-1B, Kinston: 3-for-5, R, HR, RBI: Bo now has two home runs on the season and they've both come within the past four games.
• T.J. House-SP, Kinston: W (5-6), 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K: The run continues for T.J. House who has continued to pitch deep into games. He's now gone six ore more innings in seven of his last ten games and he's gone at least five in each of them. This is his second straight effort with no runs and has given up just one earned run in his last 20 innings.
• Carlos Moncrief-CF, Lake County: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, BB, K: Just his third and fourth hits in his last six games, Moncrief only has two multi-hit games in his last six and six total hits in his last ten. 
• Alex Monsalve-DH, Lake County: 1-for-4, R, 2B, RBI, K: Monsalve just has six total hits in his last ten games He hasn't earned a walk since June 10th. He knocked in just his second run in the past ten games.
• Jesus Aguilar-1B, Lake County: 2-for-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K: Here's one hitter who hasn't been struggling. Aguilar hit his team leading 11th home run and collected his sixth mutli-hit game in his last eight contests. It's his second home run of that streak and he has seven RBI.
• Michael Goodnight-SP, Lake County: L (5-5), 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, BB, 3 K: Michael Goodnight has given up nine earned runs in his past two outings, his last eight innings. After coming off a streak in which he gave up three runs in five starts (29.2 innings). After pulling off two wins, he's lost two straight.
• Bryce Stowell-RP, Lake County: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K: Fresh off extended spring training and rehab, Bryce Stowell turned in his second two innings of scoreless relief for Lake County. This time he showed the Stowell we've come to know with four of his six outs coming via the strikeout. Might be time to move him up the ladder.
• Jake Lowery-DH, Mahoning Valley: 1-for-3, BB: The catcher from James Madison has been DHing these past two games and in this one he came up with his first professional hit.
• Aaron Siliga-LF, Mahoning Valley: 1-for-2, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K: Last year's 17th round pick came up with his first hit of the season after hitting .250 last season with two home runs in 42 games for the Rookie squad in Arizona.
• Cody Elliot-CF, Mahoning Valley: 2-for-3, RBI: His first two pro hits and his first pro RBI all in the same game. Elliot had the best game for the Valley in their first win.
• Harold Guerrero-SP, Mahoning Valley: W (1-0), 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, K: The left-handed Harold Guerrero has spent two years playing for the Dominican Summer League, compiling a record of 1-12. In just one start for Mahoning Valley he's 1-0 after a solid five innings of work. 
• Cody Allen-RP, Mahoning Valley: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, K: The right-handed out of High Point made his pro-debut to the tune of two scoreless innings of relief. Allen was selected by the Indians in 2010 and again in 2011.
• Kyle Petter-Closer, Mahoning Valley:  SV (1), 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, K: Picked in the 34th round of the 2010 draft, Petter made his Mahoning Valley debut as the stopper, picking up his second career save.
