Around the Farm: June 8

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Chun Chen - C, Akron: 3-4, 2 2B, RBI, K. Chen is proving to many that his bat is nearly ready for a call-up, but his K rate is still a little alarming. He has 13 walks in comparison to 54 strike outs. Overall, however, Chen is our organization's top catching prospect and at 22 years of age, he has a bright future ahead of him.

• Nick Johnson - DH, Columbus: 1-3, BB, K. Two hits in two games with the Clippers so far.
• David Huff - SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 5 H, ER/R, 2 BB, 3 K. Not an overly impressive outing by Huff, but he did just enough to put the Clippers in a position to win. He picked up his fourth win of the season, improving to 4-2.
• Zach Putnam - RP, Columbus: 1.1 IP, 3K. You've got to believe that Putnam will be called up to Cleveland in the near future. He picked up his seventh save of the season.
• Beau Mills - 1B, Akron: 2-3, R, HR, RBI, 2 BB. Don't look now, but all of a sudden, Mills is swinging a hot bat and has boosted his average all the way up to .295. In his last ten games, he's hitting .359, with 3 HR and 9 RBI. In the past ten games, he also has a .400 OBP/.615 SLG/1.015 OPS.
• Nick Weglarz - DH, Akron: 1-3, 2 R, 2B, 2 BB. It's nice to finally see Weglarz playing again and producing. When healthy, he's easily one of our top prospects.
• Matt McBride - RF, Akron: 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI. This is what you can consider a typical night for McBride who is a consistent producer in the Aeros lineup.
• Kelvin De La Cruz - SP, Akron: 6 IP, H, 3 BB, 3 K. One of De La Cruz's best starts of the year, allowing a single hit and no runs. He did still walk three, but certainly much of an improvement over his past outings.
• Adam Miller - RP, Akron: IP, H, K. Miller has been somewhat inconsistent coming back, some outings he'll be dominant and others where he'll be a complete mess. I'm rooting for him to come back strong.
• Jeremie Tice - DH, Kinston: 3-5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, K. Tice has really produced this season in an offense that, for the most part, hasn't. He's hitting .315 and showing no signs of slowing down.
• Roberto Perez - C, Kinston: 2-4, R, 3B, 3 RBI, K. Usually Perez is known for his exceptional defense, but he brought his bat to the ball park too.
• TJ House - SP, Kinston: 6.2 IP, 2 H, ER/R, 4 BB. A much better outing by House whose season could be categorized as pretty bad. He didn't strike a batter out, but he limited his damage.
• LeVon Washington - CF, Lake County: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K. Washington hasn't been off to the start most fans have expected, but coming off an injury and adjusting to professional pitching, I will certainly give him much more time.
• Steven Wright - SP, Lake County: 3.1 IP, 12 H, 8 ER/11 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HR. Wright has been relatively dominant all season, but in this particular instance, what a nightmare.
• Nathan Striz - RP, Lake County: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER/R, K, HR. I was somewhat excited about Striz when we drafted him, with the thought he could develop into a quality reliever. He's been quite the opposite of that this year.
• Rob Bryson - RP, Lake County: IP, H, 2K. Solid outing from Bryson who is in Lake County on rehab. Can't wait to see the kid healthy again.
