2011 Tony Awards: All-Tony Team

Today we wrap up the 2011 Tony Awards with the announcement of the All-Tony teams for 2011.

These are the first and second teams as I see them in the Cleveland Indians organization based on their performance this past year.  Again, this is not a top prospect listing by position, but a listing based 100% on performance from the past season. Players acquired in trades in July or later were not eligible to be listed, and for full season teams a player had to have spent at least a half season in the minors.

Here is a one final recap of all eight Tony Awards handed out this year:

Rookie of the Year: Cody Allen (RHP)
Defensive Player of the Year: Kyle Bellows (3B)
Biggest Disappointment: Nick Weglarz (OF)
Biggest Breakthrough: Elvis Araujo (LHP)
Reliever of the Year: Chen-Chang Lee (RHP)
Comeback Player of the Year: Beau Mills (1B)
Pitcher of the Year: Jeanmar Gomez (RHP)
Offensive Player of the Year: Jesus Aguilar (1B)

Again, these awards are simply for fun to hand out at the end of the year.  Also, the Cleveland Indians in no way whatsoever had any input in these awards.

I just had to laugh a bit here, poor Paolo Espino can't even get honorable mention consideration on a listing that doesn't even consider major league potential.

Poor guy just can't get a break from anyone, despite going 8-1 with a 2.77 ERA and one of the best WHIPs for anyone in the minors going at least 100 innings this season.

Hope he at least has a happy home life...

hey art,

I'm with you on Espino.
And your remark re: not considering MLB potential.... this is a pretty sad listing of 'possible' MLB prospects. Of course there are some high ceiling guys not listed here, but even with that, the Tribe's system is woefully short in a number of areas, with lack of upper level OF talent and dearth of run producers the most glaring.

Espino was definitely considered. The problem is that strictly on performance/numbers, all of Chen Lee, Kyle Landis and Tyler Sturdevant out-performed Espino as a right-handed reliever. I did not consider him for one of the three right-handed starter spots because he simply did not have enough starts for a full season player.

Unfortunately for Espino he pitches with his right hand. If he were a lefty he might have easily been the 1st or 2nd team left-handed reliever.
