Around the Farm: October 21

Kelvin De La Cruz
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday.

Arizona Fall League
  • Chad Huffman (1B): 0-for-4. Aguilar got the day off so it allowed Huffman to get some time in live game action at first base. Still off to a slow start with the bat going 4-for-24 in 6 games.
  • Tyler Sturdevant (RP): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. Sturdevant’s best outing so far in his first three appearances. It was 4 up and 4 down on 11 pitches (9 strikes).
Dominican Winter League
  • Kelvin De La Cruz (RP, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. De La Cruz faced just one batter and hit him and then was promptly removed. His usage so far this fall has been interesting and almost like he is being used strictly as a loogy.
  • Jerad Head (LF, Tigres del Licey): 1-for-4, 2 K. Head has played six games so far in the DR and has struck out in 6 of his 23 at bats.
  • Juan Diaz (2B, Estrelles de Oriente): 0-for-4. Diaz gets some time at second base, a position he did not play all year. He has yet to record a hit in 15 at bats this fall.
Venezuelan Winter League
  • Luis Valbuena (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 1-for-3, R, 2B, BB, K. Valbuena is getting a lot of playing time and is off to a productive start with a .276/.400/.483 batting line in 9 games.
