Around the Farm: October 20

Roberto Perez
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday. Note, there were no games in the Dominican Winter League.

Arizona Fall League
  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 1-for-4, R, 2B, 2 BB, 2 K. A little bit of good and bad for Aguilar. He is still racking up the extra base hits (10) and walks (10) so far in 12 AFL games, but the strikeouts as well (14).
  • Chad Huffman (RF): 2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI, BB. Huffman’s best game so far in the 5 games he has played in the AFL. With Aguilar around his work at first base has mostly been limited to pregame activities.
  • Roberto Perez (C): 1-for-5, R, HR, 4 RBI. Perez is just 3-for-26 so far in the AFL, but he has made the most of his hits as he has 8 RBI thanks to a 3-run homer and grand slam.
  • Preston Guilmet (RP): 1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R/ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 0 K. Probably the worst outing in Guilmet’s three year pro career allowing 8 baserunners and 5 runs in less than 2 innings.
Venezuelan Winter League
  • Hector Rondon (RP, Leones del Caracas): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K. Rondon’s winter league debut in his home country of Venezuela. You don’t like to see 2 walks in just 1.1 inning, but getting innings is all that matters at this point.
  • Luis Valbuena (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 0-for-3, RBI, BB. Valbuena has started every game at 2B for his Venezuelan team this fall and is hitting .269/.345/.462 in 8 games.
