Around the Farm: AZPL 10/11

Tyler Sturdevant
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in Instructional League, advanced Instructional League (AZPL), the Arizona Fall League (AFL), and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the game report for the AZPL game played on Tuesday. Also, the no Indians players played in the AFL game yesterday, so no recap info is provided below from that game.

One last note….once Instructional League and AZPL action ends this week I will begin to add the winter league action to this daily report. The Venezuela Winter League started play yesterday and the Dominican Republic Winter League starts tomorrow. Other winter leagues will start up soon as well.

Parallel League Game #14: October 11 vs. Surprise
  • Jake Lowery (1B): 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B. Lowery continues to be an on-base machine as he is now 12-for-34 with 8 walks this fall.
  • Carlos Moncrief (LF): 1-for-4, 3B, RBI, 2 K. Moncrief’s 51 plate appearances are the most for any player this fall. He’s having a very good fall.
  • Leonardo Castillo (3B): 0-for-3, BB. Castillo’s first game in the AZPL, and now Bellows’ second straight game he has not played so it appears Castillo has replaced Bellows on the roster for the final week.
  • Alex Lavisky (C): 0-for-1, BB. Lavisky now just 4-for-27 with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts in combined action in the FIL and AZPL.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (DH): 1-for-1. Rodriguez has been getting in some action in the final days of Instructs with the advanced Instructs team in the AZPL and is holding his own going 3-for-10 at the plate.
  • Tyler Sturdevant (SP): 1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Sturdevant’s first appearance this fall. He is slated to start in the AFL but is being built up first in Instructs before he goes over.
  • Alexander Perez (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Perez makes his second appearance this fall, though his first appearance was earlier in camp so it appears he had a minor setback.
  • Ryan Merritt (RP): 2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 K. Merritt’s third appearance this fall and second with the AZPL team. That’s now 4 runs on 7 hits in 4.0 innings in the AZPL.
