Around the Farm: October 19

Cory Burns
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League
  • Chad Huffman (1B): 0-for-4. Huffman was like a mountain range in 2011 with lots of peaks and valleys, and so far to start his AFL season he is in one of those valley’s going 2-for-16 in his first 4 games.
  • Cory Burns (RP): 1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 0 HR. A rough 27-pitch inning for Burns who allowed 5 of the 8 batters he faced to reach base and 3 of them to score.
Dominican Winter League
  • Juan Diaz (SS, Estrellas de Oriente): 0-for-4, R, K. Diaz is off to a very slow start as he is hitless in his first 11 at bats in the DR.
  • Jerad Head (RF, Tigres del Licey): 1-for-4, R. Head is no longer on the Indians 40-man roster and now can control his fate on whether to decide to accept his outright assignment or declare free agency and use this fall/winter to find a better team.
Venezuelan Winter League
  • Luis Valbuena (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 2-for-3, R, BB. Valbuena is the regular everyday second baseman for his VWL team at least in the early going and in 7 games has a .227/.320/.455 batting line.
