Around the Farm: Instructs 10/1

Alex Lavisky
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special Instructional League version of ATF that recaps each of the 13 Instructional League games the Indians minor leaguers will play this fall as well as games played in the advanced Instructional League (Arizona Parallel League, AZPL). The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the game report for the Fall Instructional League game played on Saturday.

Instructional League Game #7: October 1 vs. Rangers
  • Tyler Holt (CF): 2-for-5, K, 2 SB. Holt has a nice final game in Instructs and is done for the season and has gone home.  A very nice first full season for him.
  • LeVon Washington (LF): 0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K. Something that bears watching: Washington has 7 walks in 7 games and 21 total plate appearances.
  • Tony Wolters (2B): 0-for-2, K. Wolters now just 1-for-20 at the plate so far this fall.
  • Robel Garcia (2B): 1-for-2, RBI, K. One of the nice surprises this season and so far this fall.
  • Jake Lowery (C): 1-for-2, RBI, K. Lowery is having a nice fall as he has reached base in 12 of his 21 plate appearances.
  • Alex Lavisky (C): 1-for-1, 2B, 2 RBI, BB. A perfect game for Lavisky, and nice to see not only a big RBI double but a walk as well.
  • Giovanny Urshela (3B): 0-for-4, 2 K. In 7 games Urshela is 5-for-21 with 2 doubles, an RBI. He has no walks and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (SS): 2-for-4, K, E. That is Ronny Rod’s third error already this fall in just 7 games.
  • Jorge Martinez (DH): 1-for-3, R, 2B, 2K. Martinez gets his first hit in 6 games and 15 at bats this fall.
  • Luigi Rodriguez (RF): 1-for-3, R, RBI, 2 K, SB. Surprisingly tied for the team lead in RBI through 7 games.
  • Leonardo Castillo (1B): 2-for-4, R, 2 K. Starting to come on of late going 3-for-7 in his last 2 games.
  • Francisco Lindor (DH): 1-for-4, R, RBI, 3 K. Lindor strikes out for the hat trick, and has now struck out in half of his fall at bats.
  • Clayton Cook (SP): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 5 BB, 2K. Cook struggled through his two innings throwing 59 pitches and walking 5 batters.
  • Cody Allen (RP): 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 2 K. Allen makes his Instructional League debut and looked rusty needing 39 pitches to get through 2 innings.
  • Ryan Merritt (RP): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Another Instructional League debut, and a near perfect one for Merritt as he needed just 20 pitches to breeze through his two innings of work.
  • Jeffry Cleto (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 0 K. Cleto was a workhorse for the DSL team this year, and is getting a chance to show what he can do in front of the Indians brass this fall.
  • Estevenson Encarnacion (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. Um, who? In all seriousness, he pitched in the DSL this year and is an intriguing prospect likely coming stateside next year.
  • Manuel Carmona (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. The hard throwing Carmona with a solid first appearance this fall.
