Around the Farm: AFL 10/6 & Instructs and AZPL 10/5

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in Instructional League, advanced Instructional League (AZPL), the Arizona Fall League (AFL), and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Arizona Fall League: October 6

• Jesus Aguilar (1B): 3-for-3, 3 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB: What needs to be said about this kid, except wow. Aguilar hit his second homer in as many games, and last night's shot went out so fast, Aguilar had no idea where it even went. While all three of his hits were of the extra-base variety, the Tribe brass may be most impressed with his two walks. If this kids learns the art of taking pitches, he could become something incredibly special.
• Tim Fedroff (LF): 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, SB (1): Fedroff continues to make scouts take notice. While many believe Fedroff to be a poor-man's Trevor Crowe, he may be beginning to prove otherwise. He continues to excel whereever they put him.
• T.J. McFarland (SP): W (1-0), 3 IP, 2 H, 3 K: McFarland needs to take it to the next level, and last night's outing is a step forward after treading water for much of 2011.
• Preston Guilmet (RP): 1 2/3 IP, 4 H, 3 R/2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K: This is a blip on the screen for Guilmet, who may have been the best reliever in the organization last season.
• Cory Burns (Closer): 1 IP: Burns was outstanding once again. He threw eight pitches, six of which were strikes, and was in and out faster than you can blink. Give the Burns/Guilmet heads-up to Guilmet to start the AFL.

Instructional League Game #8: October 5 vs. Mariners

• Juan Herrera (2B): 1-for-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K: Well, I'd like to tell you that I miraculously have some information on this guy, but I don't. Like Tony, I've got nothing, but not a bad start for this new guy. My guess is he's a free agent signing, but I'm sure Tony will have more in the next few days.
• Francisco Lindor (SS): 0-for-4: Lindor has the spotlight in the organization, but give him some time to develop. He's got an abundance of talent, even though he's struggled so far in instructs.
• Jake Lowery (C): 1-for-2, 1 R: Lowery is smoking the ball in instructs, hitting near .400 in eight games.
• Eric Haase (C): 0-for-1, 1 R: Haase isn't getting the majority of playing time, and has struggled in his limited time.
• Leonardo Castillo (1B): 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI: Castillo had a nice game to break out of an eight game slump.
• Jordan Smith (3B): 3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI: Smith played in his second game, and continued where he left off after his first full season with Mahoning Valley. The kid can hit.
• Robel Garcia (DH): 0-for-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K: Garcia's hitting .350 in instructs so far this season.
• Bryson Myles (CF): 2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K: Myles is a top-5 player in the organization, and he continues to perform. He's hitting .360 so far in instructs.
• Anthony Santander (RF): 0-for-4: Santander still doesn't have a hit after two games.
• Hunter Jones (LF): 1-for-2: Jones got his first hit of the fall.
• Dorssys Paulino (DH): 0-for-3: Paulino remains hitless in his two instruct games so far this fall.

Parallel League Game: October 5

• Ronny Rodriguez (SS): 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, CS: Rodriguez cotinues with his hot bat in the fall. Next year could be a big season for the Tribe middle-infielder.
• Kyle Bellows (1B): 2-for-3, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 BB: Bellows struggled with the bat for most of the season, so it's good to see him playing well so far. It's also interesting to see him playing first base, since he's such a solid third baseman. No doubt this isn't a permanent thing.
• Carlos Moncrief (RF): 0-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 K: Moncrief was hitless in his first game.
• Alex Lavisky (C): 1-for-4, 2 K: Lavisky needs to start showing improvement, or his time as a relevant prospect will be over.
• Cody Allen (P): 2 IP, 2 H: Allen has a ton of talent, and he should develop into one of the best arms in the system.
• Dale Dickerson (P): 1 IP, 4 H, 4 R/3 ER: Not a good outing for Dickerson, but they will come.
