Around the Farm: AZPL 10/14 & AFL 10/15

Alexander Perez
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in Instructional League, advanced Instructional League (AZPL), the Arizona Fall League (AFL), and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the final game report from the AZPL game played on Friday and also the AFL game played on Saturday.  Now that all the games in the Fall Instructional League have been completed I will begin to add the game reports from the winter leagues to this daily report.

Arizona Fall League: October 15
  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 1-for-4, 2 R, BB. Aguilar’s home run tear has cooled, but he continues to get on base and put up quality at bats as he reached base in 2 of his 5 plate appearances in this game.
  • Chad Huffman (DH): 1-for-5, K. For Huffman this fall it is all about getting some experience at first base and being more consistent at the plate.
  • Tyler Sturdevant (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K. Sturdevant’s AFL debut. He was efficient throwing just 10 pitches and 8 for strikes, and the only mistake was hit out of the yard.
Parallel League Game #17: October 14 vs. Glendale
  • Carlos Moncrief (LF): 1-for-3, BB, K. Moncrief ended a solid fall showing by reaching base twice in four at bats. He logged the most plate appearances of any Indians player this fall, by far.
  • Alexander Perez (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. Nice to see Perez make an appearance in the final game. His appearances this fall were limited, but from what I saw of him he looked good. The Indians will probably be conservative with him next spring but I see no reason if he is not healthy why he would not start the season in Akron or Carolina.
  • Hector Rondon (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. Rondon came back just two days after his last appearance on Wednesday. His fastball looked electric again.
  • Dale Dickerson (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. Dickerson had a clean 13-pitch inning and led Indians pitchers in appearances this fall.
  • J.D. Reichenbach (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. A solid 2011 campaign by the undrafted left-hander Reichenbach both in the regular season and in the fall.
