Around the Farm: Instructs 10/8

Bryson Myles
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special Instructional League version of ATF that recaps each of the 13 Instructional League games the Indians minor leaguers will play this fall as well as games played in the advanced Instructional League (Arizona Parallel League, AZPL). The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the game report for the Instructional League game on Saturday. There was no AFL game as they do not play on Sundays.

Instructional League Game #11: October 8 vs. Reds
  • LeVon Washington (DH): 1-for-4, R, 2 RBI, K. Washington gets his first 2 RBI of the fall. Still just 4-for-28 at the plate in 10 games.
  • Francisco Lindor (SS): 3-for-3, R, 2 2B, 3B. Lindor’s best game by far this fall as he came into the game just 3-for-19 at the plate. Very nice to see the three extra base hits.
  • Dorssys Paulino (SS): 1-for-2, K, E. Paulino is a high profile Latin American signing this past July who continues to impress this fall in his first game exposure as a professional.
  • Jake Lowery (C): 0-for-2, RBI, BB, K. That is now 8 walks and 8 strikeouts for Lowery in 11 games.
  • Eric Haase (C): 1-for-2, RBI, K. Haase has had limited playing time, but he collects his second hit and first RBI in 13 at bats this fall.
  • Leonardo Castillo (1B): 2-for-5, 2 R, K. Castillo has received a ton of playing time this fall and has played every game. His 40 plate appearances are the most of any player.
  • Jordan Smith (3B): 1-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB. Smith now has 4 walks and 5 hits in 16 plate appearances.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (DH): 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, K. Another good game for Rodriguez who has had a solid fall showing hitting .350 with 1 HR and 2 RBI.
  • Bryson Myles (CF): 1-for-2, R, HR, 5 RBI, BB. Huge day for the talented outfielder from the 2011 Draft.
  • Anthony Santander (RF): 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, K. Santander has 5 strikeouts in 13 at bats this fall.
  • Hunter Jones (LF): 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B. Jones’ best game this fall and an opportunity to play the entire game.
  • Juan Herrera (2B): 0-for-2. Still a mystery man, but hopefully not for long once I get to Arizona this week.
  • Robel Garcia (2B): 0-for-1, R, BB, E. Garcia has played in all 11 games and has had a good showing. His power is intriguing and he is drawing walks.
  • Dillon Howard (SP): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Howard’s 4th outing this fall and another good one as he needed just 15 pitches to cruise through two clean innings.
  • Danny Salazar (RP): 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Salazar’s good fall continues with 3 shutout innings. He has easily been one of the best stories of Instructional League.
  • Estevenson Encarnacion (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Another new guy to the system this year who has three scoreless outings this fall covering 3.2 innings.
  • Manual Carmona (RP): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 K. Carmona needed 38 pitches to get through his two innings of work.
  • Shawn Armstrong (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. A clean 15-pitch inning for Armstrong who now has 9 strikeouts in 4.0 innings this fall.
