Around the Farm: AZPL 10/12 & AFL 10/13

Hector Rondon
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in Instructional League, advanced Instructional League (AZPL), the Arizona Fall League (AFL), and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the game report for the AZPL game played on Wednesday and the AFL game on Thursday.

One last note….once Instructional League and AZPL action ends this week I will begin to add the winter league action to this daily report. The Venezuela Winter League started play on Wednesday and the Dominican Republic Winter League starts today. Other winter leagues will start up soon as well.

Arizona Fall League: October 13
  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 2-for-4, BB, 2 K. That is now four multi-hit games for Aguilar so far in his 7 games played. More impressively is his second hit was a solid single to the opposite field.
  • Preston Guilmet (RP): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Guilmet has pitched 4.2 innings in three appearances this fall and has allowed 7 hits and 4 walks.
  • Cory Burns (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Another solid outing for Burns who is off to a good start in the AFL allowing 1 run in 4.0 innings.
Parallel League Game #15: October 12 vs. Glendale
  • Alex Monsalve (1B): 1-for-3, R, BB, K, E. Monsalve played first base and made a nice sliding scoop to his left on a grounder toward the line, almost like a catcher blocking a ball in the dirt.
  • Carlos Moncrief (LF): 0-for-2. Moncrief only played five innings before being taken out so another player could get some at bats.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (SS): 0-for-2, BB, K. Rodriguez did not get a hit, but anytime he walks it is noteworthy. It is something he needs to continue to do a lot more of going forward.
  • Alex Lavisky (C): 0-for-0, BB. Lavisky was a late game substitution and walked in his one plate appearance.
  • Robel Garcia (3B): 1-for-1. Garcia was another late game substitution and made the most of it with a hit. He has really had a strong fall.
  • Hector Rondon (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Rondon gave up a weak single and otherwise was perfect on the day. His fastball is showing signs of that same explosiveness it had prior to his elbow injury last year.
  • J.D. Reichenbach (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Reichenbach allowed two baserunners but was able to get through the inning without any damage.
  • Dale Dickerson (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Dickerson logged yet another appearance and leads Indians hurlers in appearances this fall.
  • Shawn Armstrong (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 K. The one hit and run Morimando allowed was a home run, but other than that one mistake he looked good.

Great to hear Rondon is progressing.
Indians will probably be very careful with him in 2012.
Aguilar is one of the most intriguing Indians prospects in years.
This young man may be a lot closer than most think.
