2011 Cleveland Indians Payroll Chart

Here is an updated payroll listing after all the trade activity in July by the Indians where they shipped off players on the 40-man such as Alex White and Orlando Cabrera and added players like Kosuke Fukudome, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Thomas Neal. I have also updated the listing with recent 40-man activity to remove players like Mitch Talbot, Jared Goedert, Travis Buck, etc and add players like Cord Phelps, Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall.

General Notes: 

- The 2011 salaries listed for Ubaldo Jimenez and Kosuke Fukudome are revised from their actual full 2011 salaries.  Fukudome actually makes $13.5 million in 2011, but as part of the deal the Indians only owe him $775K the rest of the season. Jimenez actually makes $2.8 million in 2011, but with the Indians on the hook for the last two months of his salary this year the $1M amount listed is a rough pro-rated amount for what the Indians owe him the rest of the season give or take $100K.

- Most of the players will earn league minimum salaries ($413K) or right around it depending on their service time. Players in the minors on optional assignment are listed at $67K which is the amount they receive while on such an assignment.

- Major League service time is through the 2010 season.  172 days of service time is considered 1 major league season. Service time listing shows the years before the decimal point, and the days after. Ex: 2.134 is 2 years and 134 days of service time.  Though the season is really 180 days or so long, you cannot accrue anymore than 172 days of service time in a season.

- Free agency is projected as if all players played a full season at the big league level from this year going forward.  Obviously, for several players free agency will actually be pushed back a year or two as they spend more time in the minors in the coming years, but the listing is to show the earliest they can become a free agent.

Brantley, Michael:
- As a non-arbitration eligible player, he will make around $400K in 2011.

Jimenez, Ubaldo:
- Signed by the Colorado Rockies to a 4-year $10 million deal prior to the 2009 season, a deal which also includes two option years.
- He made $750K in 2009 and $1.25M in 2010, and makes $2.8M in 2011 and $4.2M in 2012.  He has a $5.75M club option for 2013 which has a $1M buyout. He had an $8.0M club option for 2014 with a $1M buyout as well, but as part of his contract if he were traded that 2014 club option turns into a player option.
- His 2013 club option increases to $6.75M if he wins the 2012 Cy Young or to $6.25M if he finishes 2nd or 3rd in the Cy Young voting. His 2014 player option increases to $9.0M if he wins the Cy Young or 450 innings pitched from 2012-2013, or to $8.5M with a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the 2013 Cy Young voting.
- He receives a performance bonus of $50K for reaching each of 200, 210, 220, 230, and 240 inning pitched in a season.
- He receives an award bonus of $100K for winning a Cy Young in 2011 or a $50K bonus if he finished 2nd to 5th in the voting. He also receives an award bonus of $100K for MVP or World Series MVP, a $75K bonus League Championship Series MVP, and a $25K bonus for each All Star selection or winning a Gold Glove.

- His contract includes a $1M signing bonus, which is divided over the six years of the deal.
- Base salary: 2006: $500K, 2007: 750K, 2008: $3M, 2009: $4.6M, 2010: $5.6M, 2011: $7.5M, 2012: 8.5M club option ($500K buyout).
- His 2012 option escalates by $500K for each of the following: he wins a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger, makes an All Star team, or ranks high in MVP vote.  His 2012 option has already increased by $500K to $9M because of his 2008 All Star selection.
- He also gets award bonuses of $75K for an All Star selection, $100K for a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger.
- If he is traded, he receives a $500K assignment bonus and his remaining salaries bump by 10% each season and his 2012 club option becomes a player option though the buyout does not apply if he declines the player option.

- Signed a one year $870K deal to avoid arbitration.
- He gets a $5K bonus if he pitches more than 55.0 innings, a $10K bonus for 60.0 or more innings, and a $15K bonus if he pitches 65.0 or more innings.
