Guilmet wins Pitcher of the Week award

Kinston right-handed closer Preston Guilmet was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending on August 21st. Guilmet collected three saves in the week long span to become the league’s saves leader with 33, and in four appearances he struck out four batters and allowed two hits in five innings of scoreless work.

On the season Guilmet is 1-1 with a 1.66 ERA and 33 saves in 48 total appearances this season. The University of Arizona product has been dominant all season, allowing earned runs to score in just six of his 48 appearances. Kinston’s opposition has been unable to score on Guilmet in 17 of his last 18 outings, contributing to a 0.00 ERA in the month of August. He is currently working with an 11 inning scoreless streak and has the second most saves in all of minor league baseball.

Guilmet is the fourth K-Triber, joining Marty Popham (7/11-7/17), T.J. House (6/13-6/19) and Drew Pomeranz (4/8-4/17), to be named as a Carolina League Pitcher of the Week this year. On the position player front outfielder Abner Abreu was the Carolina League Player of the Week from July 11th and 25th.
