Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.
- Cord Phelps - 2B, Columbus: 1-4, K. Phelps hasn't been incredibly impressive, but he's done just enough in Columbus to stay relavent.
- Luis Valbuena - SS, Columbus: 2-3, BB, K. Continuing to torch AAA pitching, Valbuena has nothing left to prove in the minors. However, he still has quite a bit to prove at the big league level.
- Jeanmar Gomez - SP, Columbus: (L, 10-5) 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER/3 R, 4 BB, 3 K. It's amazing in how short of time a guy that seemed as if his days with the club were limited (Huff) has surpassed that of Gomez who remains high in the minds of Tribe brass.
- Chun Chen - C, Akron: 1-4, 2 R, 2B, BB, 2 K. Hitting .216 in his past ten games, this may have been the kind of game Chen needed to hit his way out of his recent slump.
- John Drennan - LF, Akron: 2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, BB, 2 K. It started out with a suspension to start the year and now Drennan has been playing catch up since. For much of the season, he's looked a bit lost and not quite like the once upon a time prospect we had drafted.
- TJ McFarland - SP, Akron: (L, 9-6) 5.1 IP, 11 H, 1 ER/4 R, 4 BB, 3 K. McFarland has quietly put together another solid season in Akron and while he's not a legitimate prospect, he's still bound to prove his doubters wrong.
- Adam Miller - RP, Akron: 2.2 IP, H, BB, K. This was the kind of outing Miller needed to get back on track, who has really been rocked lately.
- Tyler Holt - CF, Kinston: 2-3, 2 R, 2 BB. Hitting just .147 in his past ten games, Holt has really been in a deep slump and despite that, he's been one of the bright spots in a Kinston line up that has been anemic all season.
- Jeremie Tice - DH, Kinston: 2-3, 3 R, 2 BB. Tice has always been one of my favorite players in the Indians system, both on and off the field. He's a class act player who has deserved a better fate, to no real fault to himself, other than injuries.
- Clayton Cook - SP, Kinston: (W, 8-8) 6.2 IP, 9 H, ER/R, BB, 6 K. This is the third consecutive strong outing from Cook, who has not allowed more than 2 ER and 3 R and pitched at least 5 innings.
- Kyle Landis - RP, Kinston: (S, 2) 2.1 IP, H, 3 K. One of the sleeper relievers this season has been Landis, who has managed just a 0.99 ERA.
- Shin-S00 Choo - RF, Lake County: 0-4, RBI, K. Choo has yet to manage a hit on his rehab assignment, but most fans would agree, a healthy Choo is vital to a playoff run.
- Luigi Rodriguez - CF, Lake County: 0-3, 2 K. Luigi came out of the gates strong in Lake County, but has since cooled and is just 3 for his last 20.
- Ronny Rodriguez - SS, Lake County: 0-4, 2 K. I'm not one who is as high on Ronny has others, between his terrible glove at short this year and inconsistent bat, I still feel he's not going to pan out as high as others seem to believe he will.
- Bryson Myles - RF, Mahoning Valley: 0-4, R, BB, 3 K, 2 SB. While Myles didn't impress with his bat, he did manage another 2 stolen bases. He now has 14 stolen bases in 30 games, which is almost half.
- Tony Wolters - SS, Mahoning Valley: 2-4, 3 R, 2B, BB, SB. It was nice to see Wolters with an extra base hit, who has been in a bit of a dry spell in terms of extra base hits.
- Jake Lowery - DH, Mahoning Valley: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, K. Lowery continues to intrigue me in a way that Wolters and Smith haven't; he hasn't been a singles hitter.
- Jordan Smith - 3B, Mahoning Valley: 3-4, R, RBI, BB, K. I still believe one of the best surprises so far this season has been Jordan Smith who hasn't quit hitting since starting his professional career.
