Preston Guilmet: Closer, Kinston: 1 1/3 IP, 2 K, S (32):
When it's all said and done, Preston Guilmet just might be in the midst of the best season among organizational pitchers, and certainly is the top closer at this point. He saved his 32nd game, and is just ice when he takes the mound. Guilmet has a 1.73 ERA in his 46 games, and has struck out 54 against only nine walks. He's deadly against right-handed hitters, as they are only hitting .179 against him, while lefties are only hitting .234. He's not an overpowering pitcher, but has a fantastic delivery that hides his pitches until the release point. With Cory Burns ahead of him, I'm not sure what the development plans are for the closer, but it's been fairly confusing watching him stick with Kinston all season. He should end up in Columbus or higher by the end of the 2012 season. It's interesting to note that this was his third straight appearance throwing more than an inning.
- Tim Fedroff: CF, Columbus: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB: Fedroff had cooled off in Columbus after having a huge start to the season in Akron, but has lately regained the magic with four multi-hit games in his last five. He's gone 9-for-16, with four runs, three doubles and five RBI during the stretch.
- Cord Phelps: SS, Columbus: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI: While Phelps is in the land of limbo with Chisenhall and Kipnis anchoring infield spots in Cleveland, he continues to produce at Columbus, with hits in 9 of his last ten games.
- Nick Johnson: DH, Columbus: 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 K: It was hoped that Johnson would provide the Indians offense with a boost over the summer, but he's just not productive anymore. Looks like a one-and-done year for the veteran first baseman.
- Jeanmar Gomez: SP, Columbus: 7 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, L (10-6): Gomez deserved a whole lot more than a loss, but thanks to three errors and four unearned runs, that's just what he got. At the end of the day, there hasn't been a more consistent starter in the minors this year than Gomez, who still carries a stellar 2.39 ERA in Columbus this season.
- Ben Copeland: RF, Akron: 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB: Copeland hit a solo homer, and continued his solid campaign after signing with the system in June. He had his second multi-hit game in as many games.
- Juan Diaz: SS, Akron: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K: Diaz has failed to take the next step offensively this season, but does continue to show glimpses of what he could be. He has eight homers and 54 RBI this season.
- T.J. McFarland: SP, Akron: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R/ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3 HR, L (9-7): In many ways, McFarland has returned to his 2010 ways this season, with seven outstanding starts in his last ten games. The only difference is that there really isn't any grey area with the big lefty. In his three bad starts during the same stretch, he's given up 12 runs.
- Bryce Stowell: RP, Akron: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K: Stowell gave up an unearned run in two solid innings. In Stowell's seven games with the Aeros, he's alternated between giving up nothing and one-earned run with each appearance. Overall, he's carrying a solid 2.61 ERA, and seems firmly entrenched back near the top of Tribe future reliever discussions.
- Francisco Jimenez: SP, Kinston: 4 2/3 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 7 K: I'm not sure what the plan is with Jimenez heading towards the future, but he's been absolutely outstanding in his last three appearances, all starts. He's not yet pitched five full innings, and is clearly on a pitch count, but he's only given up one earned run in the 12 1/3 innings, with nine hits, eight walks and 17 K's. He should be an interesting watch going forward.
- Nick Sarianides: RP, Kinston: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, W (1-0): The righty had his first big outing in only his second appearance with the Indians, which is a big deal during a stretch in which the K-Tribe finds themselves only a game-and-a-half lead over Winston-Salem.
- Luigi Rodriguez: CF, Lake County: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K: Rodriguez is currently riding a five-game hit streak. He's hitting .265 this season, but is showing signs of bigger things to come.
- Ronny Rodriguez: SS, Lake County: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K: Rodriguez is only hitting .249 on the year, but he's absolutely got some upside with the stick. Over his last seven games, he has four two-hit games.
- Bryson Myles: RF, Mahoning Valley: 1-2, 2 RBI, 2 BB: I can't wait to see this kid play for the Carolina Mudcats next season. He was on base three times, drove in two runs, and has a knack to fill the box score. He missed more than a month with injury, and it derailed some major momentum, but he continues to showcase breakout talent on a nightly basis.
- Jake Lowery: DH, Mahoning Valley: 0-1, 1 R, 4 BB: You know you're a baseball junky when a four-walk game gets you all excited. Lowery is an advanced bat, and while he hasn't put it all together yet, he has 41 walks vs. only 38 K's in his 52 professional games.
- Jordan Smith: 3B, Mahoning Valley: 2-4, 1 K: Smith continues his breakout year with another multi-hit game. He's currently hitting .339, with an incredible .434 OBP, which is four points higher than his slugging percentage. At 6'4", you'd have to believe there's some power to develop there as well.
- Danny Jimenez: SP, Mahoning Valley: 4 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K: Jimenez is clearly on a strict pitch count, but has been outstanding this season. In his last ten games, he's gone 2-3 with a 2.82 ERA, and has a 2.47 ERA overall.
