Burns named to postseason All Star team

Double-A Akron right-handed reliever Cory Burns has been named to the Eastern League postseason All Star team. This is the second postseason All Star selection is his career as he was also selected to the Carolina League postseason All Star team last season while with High-A Kinston.

Burns currently leads the Eastern League in saves with 32 and has compiled a 2.25 ERA on the season. He leads the league in games finished (48) and is second in appearances (49). He also ranks first among all Eastern League relievers in fewest baserunners allowed per nine innings, second in walks per nine innings and third in strikeouts per nine innings.

On August 3rd, Burns became the Aeros all-time single season saves leader surpassing Randy Newsom (2008) with his 30th save in a win over the Trenton Thunder.

Burns has also participated in two mid-season All Star games in his professional career, including the 2011 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All Star Game on July 13. Baseball America rated him as the “Best Reliever” in the Eastern League this season.
