MacPhee, 21, was the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2010 during his sophomore season after hitting .389 with 9 HR, 64 RBI, 67 runs and 20 stolen bases in 57 games. This past season he hit .276 with 1 HR, 25 RBI and had 26 stolen bases and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors.
It was possible that MacPhee would return to Arizona State for his senior season, but after his numbers nosedived this past season and his stock plummeted he was expected sign. Arizona State is also banned from the 2012 postseason because of NCAA violations, so there was also no lure to stay in school to play for a College World Series title next year.
