Paolo Espino: SP, Columbus: W (2-1), 7 IP, 2 H, 7 K:
Espino has been one of the more interesting stories in the Indians farm system this year. He started the year off in Akron, pitching in every role from starter to closer, and went 6-0 with a save, and a sparkling 2.44 ERA. He hasn't been as effective at Columbus thanks to nine runs given up in his first three appearances covering 2 2/3 innings. Since then, he's been outstanding, starting three games in six appearances over 24 2/3 innings. During that stretch, he's given up three runs, three walks and 15 hits, while striking out an impressive 23 batters. His win last night clinched the division title for the Clippers, who look to defend their 2010 International League title.
- Cord Phelps: 2B, Columbus: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K: Phelps hit his second homer in as many nights, which was his 14th of the season. It's a bit surprising that he's still playing with the Clippers, since he does appear to have more upside than Luis Valbuena.
- Jared Goedert: 3B, Columbus: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI: Goedert continued his hot hitting of late with his third home run in his last three games, as well as his third straight two-hit game. He has a ten game line of .343/.395/.714.
- Jerad Head: LF, Columbus: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI: Head appears to be coming out of a mini-slump quite nicely, hitting .300 over his past five games.
- Nick Hagadone: RP, Columbus: 1 IP, 1 K: Hagadone has had two straight no-hit appearances, with three K's. The big lefty is ready and waiting, should the Indians need him prior to September 1. I'd have to imagine that he's going to be a September call-up, unless they plan to use him during the Clippers playoff push.
- Juan Diaz: SS, Akron: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B: Diaz has the stick working with his second two-hit game in as many nights, and his third in four games. He's hitting .324 over his past ten.
- Ben Copeland: RF: Akron: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB (8): The Ben Copeland Chronicles continue, as the rightfielder continues to pepper the Eastern League pitchers. He was coming off a three-game hitless streak, but is still hitting .297 over his past ten games.
- Austin Adams: SP, Akron: W (10-10), 7 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 7 K: Adams continued his mostly-hit season with one of his best outings of the season. His win last night marked his first 10-game season of his professional career. Adams has a live arm, so he could be a factor for the Tribe next year should injuries become an issue.
- Cory Burns: Closer, Akron: S (32), 1 IP, 1 H: Burns continued his organizational battle with Preston Guilmet for the most saves in the system. He now trails the Kinston closer by one save.
- Roberto Perez: C, Kinston: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI: Perez's double tied the game, and he later scored the winning run in a big Kinston victory last night.
- Marty Popham: SP, Kinston: W (6-2), 2 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 8 K: Popham was electric in getting his sixth win last night, and appears to be out of his July and early-August swoon that saw him give up 27 runs over five starts and 21 innings. He's been solid over his last two starts.
- Kyle Landis: RP, Kinston: S (3), 1 H, 5 K: Landis had given up five earned runs over his last two appearances, covering four innings, but rebounded nicely by striking out five of the seven batters that he faced.
- Luigi Rodriguez: LF, Lake County: 1-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 2 K: Rodriguez still has a ways to go, but showed off his ability with a two run triple. The kid can flat out play, and should be exciting to watch as he matures over the next couple seasons.
- Kevin Fontanez: 2B, Lake County: 2-2, 1 R: Fontanez hasn't done much with Lake County this season, so it was nice to see a two-hit performance for the .188 hitter.
- Kyle Petter: RP, Lake County: 2 IP, 1 K: Petter had a hiccup in his last outing, but regained his form with two perfect innings of relief. He has a 2.13 ERA over his last ten games.
- Bryson Myles: LF, Mahoning Valley: 2-3, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K, SB (18): Myles continues to make statements offensively, and currently has a seven game hit streak that has brought his overall average to .307. The kid continues to have incredible impact on both sides of the ball.
- Tony Wolters: SS, Mahoning Valley: 1-4, 2 R, 1 RBI: Wolters continues to produce in the #2 hole, and has a four-game hitting streak.
- Jordan Smith: RF, Mahoning Valley: 1-4, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 1 K: Talk about your impact bat. He drives in four runs with only one hit, and it wasn't a homer.

You would think if no move is made to acquire a veteran bat, hopefully we call up either Jerad Head or Goedert to at least give them a crack.
Especially Jerad Head... minor league free agent after the year and having a great season... gotta give him a peek before deciding on letting him go or trying to keep him in the offseason, right?
Agree 100%.
I don't think he's a long-term solution by any stretch, but as a right-handed bat, he should be able to provide power from a side of the plate they could really use it from.

I dont think Goedert has any shot of getting back on the roster. Head has a small chance, but open 40-man spots are likely going to be used for the likes of Zach Putnam and others in September. Remember, last year Jose Constanza had a very good year and was a free agent at the end of the season and they did not roster him, so the precedent is there to just let Head go. That said, I think Head has value to the org and I could see them trying to resign him this offseason to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Question is if Head would want to find a better opportunity elsewhere because it obviously is not here. If he was not called up this year, then when will it ever happen?
