Indians sign Argenis Reyes

Argenis Reyes
The Indians have signed infielder Argenis Reyes and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus. The 28-year old infielder originally signed with the Indians in 2001 and played with them through 2007. He signed with the Mets as a minor league free agent after the 2007 season, and last year the Indians picked him up from the Red Sox in a minor late season trade. He hit .340 with 0 HR, 4 RBI and a .741 OPS for the Clippers last season and was a veteran presence in their championship run in September.

Reyes was not resigned after last season and was playing independent ball in the Can-Am Independent League. In 60 games with the New Jersey Jackals he was hitting .306 with 2 HR, 29 RBI, 12 stolen bases, and a .767 OPS. He is expected to be a backup infield option at Columbus.
