Jeff Ellis: John Barr is our 3rd player from Virginia and our second from the University of Virginia where he played center field. He fits two of the draft trends since he plays up the middle and is a very good athlete. He has a good arm in the outfield and was a pretty solid prep pitcher. As a junior he hit .373 and was on base in every game but one, but with the new bats as a senior he hit only .299 so he is one of the many players who ended up being hurt by the new bats in college baseball this year. Even still he is a good athlete with a solid eye and will be another player to fill out the Mahoning Valley roster this year.
