Jeff Ellis: Matthew Reckling is a right-handed pitcher from Rice University, a school well known for producing pitchers who get hurt. He is a big pitcher at 6’4” who can get his fastball up to 94. His slider could also be a plus pitch. He has the same problem as previous pick Shawn Armstrong, which is inconsistency. Command trouble and delivery issues have prevented Reckling from taking the next step. In 68 innings, he had 84 K’s which is fantastic, but he also had 44 walks which is horrid. If the Indians can clean up the delivery and work on the consistency then Reckling is a steal.  If they can’t then this pick amounts to nothing. This is a classic boom or bust selection.
