2011 Indians 19th Round Pick: LHP Shawn Morimando

Photo: Rivals.com
In the 19th round of the 2011 Draft the Indians select left-handed pitcher Shawn Morimando out of Ocean Lakes High School (VA).

Bats: Left, Throws: Left, Height: 5'11", Weight: 170, Date of Birth: 11/20/1992

Jeff Ellis: Shawn Morimando is a left-handed prep pitcher from Virginia. He was a first team all region player. He is another kid who is pretty athletic for the Tribe. He throws from a ¾’s release point. In a funny turn we are trying to really hurt the East Carolina program by drafting one of their recruits one pick after drafting the pitcher who has the best stuff on their team. He is a pretty typically lefty that does not run it up very hard, and has a nice curve that could end up becoming a plus pitch. This pick continues the Indians second biggest theme this year which is getting athletes. I bet they saw Morimando when they were checking out 5th round pick William Roberts, as Virginia was not very deep this year. This is another hard sign for the Tribe, and one of those names that we won’t hear about again till August 15.
