Jeff Ellis: It’s appropriate that the final pick of Day 2 is of course from the Juco ranks. John Polonius is the 9th such player today. No word yet if he’s a big Shakespeare guy...sorry by the 30th round you become a little slap happy as Polonius is a major character in Hamlet for those not getting my reference. Polonius is a native of Curacao. He left the country to attend college in the United States to help him achieve his goal of playing pro baseball. He has played well enough at Genesee to earn a scholarship to West Virginia University. He is a 6’1” shortatop that hit .394 with one error at shortstop and earned first team honors as a freshman. He is a player with an interesting history as rarely do you see foreign players come here to go to college and play, and that alone makes him a fun player to watch throughout the signing process. It should also be pointed out that there were really three trends with the Tribe picks on Day 2. First, lots of athletes Second, tons of Juco kids. Third, guys who play up the middle. It is obvious the Indians had a plan and are sticking with it for this draft.
