ESPN story on MacPhee in April 2010
Jeff Ellis: Zach MacPhee is a second baseman from Arizona State. He is a former draft pick of the Detriot Tigers who took him in 22nd round of 2008 draft. He is a bit smaller at only 5’7”, but always seems to perform and hit. Thanks to his smaller size and scrappy play, a comp that has been mentioned is Dustin Pedoria. He has had a down junior year after a 2010 where he was the Pac 10 Offensive Player of the Year. His stock has taken a tumble and teams see limited upside with him thanks to the use of the new bats. Still Macphee has above average bat speed and hits the ball to all fields. He really has no plus skill and that is why in spite of his production in college he is here in the 13th round. He loves the game, plays hard, and is a guy who could be a great utility option down the road.
